Designer: Yvoone Gao
With her jewelry design project, contemporary designer Yvoone Gao aspired to bring romance to the daily life in the crowded, bustling and stressful urban world.
The collection “Whisper” -- a series of silver earrings, has found its inspirations from the sounds of nature, such as the pounding ocean waves and the echo of the valley.
With her earrings streamlined and resembling beautiful natural objects such as wings, shells and waves, Yvoone would like open the wearers' imaginations and invite them to a moment of meditation, where their minds could wander into tranquil surroundings in the wild and "hear" the soothing whispers of nature in their ears.
当青蔓抿住晨曦的粉脂作别泥壤,
我偷将深林的呼唤掩藏
When ivy wears the dusk and meander away from soil,
I hide away the call of the forest
当薄风抚起半纱的细帘窥探过往,
我便随乡间的琐碎流浪

Interview with Designer
Could you tell us a bit about your background and how you got interested in art and design?
When I first attended a fashion show and saw the brilliant designs showing with unexpected colors and abstract art language, I realized that ‘create’ would be one of the most important words in my life. 8 years later, I became a student of Central Saint Martin and was a part of a creative world.
What are the most important things you’ve learned at Central Saint Martin?
I started to be aware of that ‘create’ is not only an emotional verb but also requires a rational way of thinking during every design process.
What are the challenges of your creative process?
And to be a professional designer, how to combine my sensibility with rationality in my works always can be one of my biggest challenges.
What are the areas you would like to explore in your future projects?
After graduating from Central Saint Martin, I began to focus on creating my own works by blending life-oriented interest with my personal imagination. I am addicted to showing my imagination of my daily life with illustration and redesign them by jewelry and other fashion products. And that gives me second chance to understand what is my real desire.
